If you have a dozen children in a first grade classroom, it is more than likely that one chair size will not fit each child comfortably. If a child’s chair is too large, you can expect the student to get antsy. If his or her chair is too small, it is like they will get distracted. Providing chairs that are appropriate to the individual student’s height will increase the level of focus and attention that this student can maintain.
Children’s Chair Sizing Chart
As you consider chair options, it is helpful to know that the measurement listed on websites is from the floor to the top of a seat. That being said, most adult chairs are listed at 18″. If you measure a child from the floor to the back of a student’s knee, you will know what size works best for them. Don’t be surprised if you need a variety of chair sizes among the same age group!
